Windows: Connect SPP (Classic Bluetooth Serial) Devices in HiBean

If your device uses SPP (Serial Port Profile) over Classic Bluetooth, this guide walks you through the Windows setup and the HiBean binding flow.

On Windows, there are usually two ways to use an SPP device with HiBean:

  • Option A: Classic Bluetooth (SPP) direct connection (covered in this guide)
  • Option B: Serial (COM port) connection via Windows mapping (alternative; quick notes at the end)

In One Minute (TL;DR)

  1. Pair your device in Windows Settings (Windows requires system-level pairing first).
  2. Open HiBean → Devices → + and select your device brand/model.
  3. Choose the device from the list and finish binding.

If HiBean can’t find your device, it usually means Windows pairing wasn’t completed (or needs to be redone).

Important: What “Scan” Means on Windows

On Windows, HiBean’s Classic Bluetooth (SPP) device list is built from Windows’ paired device list, not from a “nearby discoverable scan”.

That means:

  • Even if the device is discoverable, it won’t show up in HiBean until it’s paired in Windows.
  • Seeing a device as “Paired but not connected” in Windows is normal — HiBean establishes the actual connection after you bind it.

Before You Start (Two Checks)

  1. Is the device supported by HiBean?

    • Check the “Add device” list in HiBean. If the brand/model isn’t listed, the current version can’t connect to it yet.
  2. Is the device really SPP?

    • Check the manual or vendor description for: SPP, Serial Port, Bluetooth Serial.

Why Windows Pairing Comes First

On Windows, many SPP devices require system-level pairing before apps can reliably discover and connect to the device’s services. If HiBean shows an empty list, pairing is the first thing to verify.

You may also see Windows creating Bluetooth “serial/COM port” entries. In most cases you can ignore them and simply follow: Windows pairing → HiBean binding.

Step-by-Step: Pair in Windows (One-Time)

  1. Put the device into pairing mode

    • Power it on.
    • Follow the device manual to make it discoverable.
    • Keep it close to the PC (within 1–2 meters).
  2. Open Windows Bluetooth settings

    • Windows 11: Settings → Bluetooth & devices
    • Windows 10: Settings → Devices → Bluetooth & other devices
  3. Add a new Bluetooth device

    • Click Add deviceBluetooth
    • Select your device when it appears.
    • If Windows asks for a PIN, use the one from the manual (common defaults are 0000 or 1234).
  4. Confirm it’s paired

    • You should see it listed as Paired/Connected (wording varies by Windows version).

Bind & Connect in HiBean (Windows)

  1. Open HiBean on Windows.
  2. Go to Devices → click +.
  3. Choose the correct device category, then pick the brand/model.
  4. HiBean will list available devices. Select yours to finish binding.
    • If multiple devices share the same name, use the Bluetooth address (or what you see in Windows settings) to distinguish them.
  5. HiBean will connect automatically after binding.

Troubleshooting (Most Common Cases)

HiBean shows an empty list / can’t find the device

  • Make sure the device is paired in Windows first.
  • Remove it in Windows (Forget/Remove device) and pair again.
  • Turn Bluetooth off/on, then try again.
  • Make sure the device isn’t connected to another phone/tablet/app at the same time.
  • Re-check that the brand/model is supported in HiBean.

Pairing succeeded, but connection fails

  • Close other Bluetooth/serial tools that might be using the device.
  • Restart the device, then restart HiBean.
  • If Windows was recently updated, re-pairing often helps.

Windows shows many Bluetooth “serial” items / COM ports

This can happen and doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong. In most cases, you can ignore it and focus on Windows pairing + HiBean binding.

Alternative: Use Serial (COM Port) Connection

Some Windows setups map Classic Bluetooth SPP devices to one or more COM ports. If your device/model supports a Serial connection option in HiBean and you already see a stable COM port in Windows, you can use this workflow instead.

High-level steps:

  1. Complete Windows pairing first.
  2. Confirm the device has an available COM port in Windows.
  3. In HiBean, add the device using the Serial connection option (if available).
  4. Select the correct COMx port and connect.
